AQUANATAL EXERCISE IN PREGNANCY
Classes take place on:
Fridays at 19:00 at The Weald Sport Centre, Angley Road, Cranbrook TN17 2PN
Booking is essential.
Aquanatal classes combine a safe level of exercise in pregnancy with the supportive effect of water, whilst also being fun. This perfect combination helps to prepare you mentally and physically for labour, boosts your stamina for daily life and labour, helps you keep fit in pregnancy, and can improve your posture, balance, and abdominal and back strength. This can all take place whilst the support of the water decreases the stress on your joints.
Being in the water can feel very comfortable in pregnancy, as the extra weight of your bump is supported by the water. Aquanatal classes can bring about an enhanced sense of well-being and can reduce stress levels by an increase of endorphins, and promote relaxation. Exercise in pregnancy can also boost levels of serotonin which can help to improve sleep patterns (which can be welcome relief if you are struggling to get a good night's sleep).
Through gentle cardiovascular exercise and pregnancy-appropriate stretches, improved circulation can relieve swelling to your ankles and feet, and can lead to an improved and faster recovery after birth.
Any levels of fitness or swimming ability is welcome (including non-swimmers). Classes take place in the shallow-end, so you will be able to stand up at all times. Should you wish to book on to the classes, you will be asked to complete a screening questionnaire. This is based on recommendations from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists as there may be pre-existing or pregnancy-induced contraindications requiring medical advice. You can access the form here: Aquanatal Screening Questionnaire. If you have any questions about whether this class may be suitable for you, please don't hesitate to contact me before booking.
You will also have the opportunity to meet other mums-to-be, helping to create a wonderful support network as you embark on this exciting journey to parenthood. All classes are midwife-led .
Classes are held at The Weald Sports Centre in Cranbrook on Fridays at 19:00. Please enquire and book or join the waiting list via the contact page.
PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO GOVERNMENT ADVISE DURING THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK, AQUANATAL CLASSES ARE NOT CURRENTLY RUNNING. THIS SITE WILL BE UPDATED ONCE WE HAVE CLEARANCE TO START AGAIN.

MAIDSTONE, Busy Bees Allington on Mondays at 2:00pm.
HEADCORN, Tori's Wellness on Wednesdays at 10:00am.
£40 for a 4 week course.
£12 Pay As You Go.

Also available for 1:1s in your own home or for private groups (price on enquiry)
Suitable for babies from 8 weeks to fully mobile, baby massage is a wonderful and empowering tool to learn in early parenthood. Over the course of 4 weeks, you will learn a full body massage to be able to help provide relief for your little one from the discomfort of colic and trapped wind, colds and congestion, teething, dry skin and much more.
Massage is a relaxing activity for both parent and baby. By simply touching your baby in the nurturing form through baby massage, it promotes the release of Oxytocin, otherwise known as the 'love hormone'. This hormone can help to reduce levels of stress hormones in both baby and parent, bringing about a sense of relaxation, trust and enhancing the bond between you and your baby. Baby massage can also boost your baby's sleep-regulating hormone, Serotonin, which can lead to better and deeper sleep cycles - for you and your baby.
During the class, you will learn how to massage your baby's legs, feet, tummy, chest, arms, hands, face and back. The strokes used will help to boost circulation to your baby's tissues, support your baby's nervous system and immune system and improve their own body awareness.
Oil is provided for you to take away and practice at home - this is 100% organic Sunflower Seed Oil. Refreshments are provided and there is always a chance to chat with other parents before and after the session. The classes are designed around your baby, and if at any point he or she needs to stop or is not enjoying it, then we will listen to and respond to the cues your baby is communicating to us.
Twins/triplets are welcome, please just contact me to discuss your needs and preferences.
Maidstone classes take place at Busy Bees Nursey in Allington.
Headcorn classes take place at Tori's Wellness.
Both venues offer cosy 'home from home' rooms where I hope you will be able to feel comfortable and relaxed.
For any enquiries about the classes, please email or message via the contact page.
Spaces may be available mid-course to join on a Pay As You Go basis, so please do get in touch if you are interested. If you would like to book on a course, please click on the Registration Form here.

UPDATED 28/3/20: ONLINE BABY MASSAGE CLASSES:
Join us for online baby massage classes! These will run twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays for 30 minutes.
These classes are open for everyone, whether you have been to a baby massage class in the past or not. These are difficult times for new parents, and it can be easy to feel alone. Although we will not all physically be together, I want you to know that you are not alone. Even if your baby is napping, please do join in, as there will be chats to be had with other mums, and if your baby's older sibling wants to join in with a doll or teddy, the more the merrier! We're all in this together!
For anyone who has been to a baby massage course with me, these classes will be structured differently as I am aware that some of you (me included) may have older children at home so our 'quiet time' may be harder to come by. Rather than focus on one element each week, I will structure these classes to touch on elements of a full body routine, giving you a twice weekly time out with your baby and interaction with other parents via the magical medium of Zoom!
I will go through the many benefits of baby massage during the classes, but right now, the most important factor is that these classes will give you the opportunity to chat to like-minded new parents, feel a sense of normality, relax and breathe deeply with your baby. Connect and bond in a time when we may otherwise feel tense, unsure and anxious.
I am asking for £26 for a 4 weekly membership to these classes. You can attend both classes a week, so 8 in total, and you will be able to book on to subsequent 4 week blocks, Once you have booked on I will send you the Zoom meeting room code which you will need to access the online classes.
As a midwife who has spent many years working for the NHS, my thoughts are with everyone who is working with immense challenges currently. The hours, the workload, the uncertainty. As small as it is, I would like to do my bit. That is why I will donate 25% of every online baby massage booking to the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
To book on, please click on the Registration form here, or feel free to contact me with any questions.
BABY YOGA - COMING SOON
Life for parents and baby can be busy; time spent in car seats, pushchairs and highchairs can be balanced with the active movement and beneficial stretching of Baby Yoga, helping to stimulate your baby's nervous system and strengthen their muscular system. This development helps with your baby's balance and body awareness which are vital as your baby moves on to more complex movements, gross motor skills and co-ordination. In one session of baby yoga, your baby could experience a level of beneficial stimulation equal to a whole day's worth.
In your loving arms, your baby will experience swings, dips and holds, enjoy active play and tummy time and relax with mum. The use of song in baby yoga promotes your baby's language development and rhythm. Certain moves and holds can also help relieve digestive pains or the discomfort of colic and wind.
The benefits for mum and baby are in equal measure as whilst baby develops their sensory integration and range of movement, you will have a chance to promote your post-birth restoration with gentle yoga poses. These poses will help you to stretch out any postural issues you may be experiencing from perhaps feeding baby or carrying baby, whilst also bringing you relaxation in a calm and non-competitive environment.
It is important to note that repetition and anticipation is important for babies and, as with traditional yoga poses, baby yoga is focused on the practice of poses as baby develops.
